Belly of the beast is a 24 seater restaurant in Cape Town CBD. We are expanding into a brand new restaurant located right next door called Galjoen. There we will focus on the amazing seafood that our country has to offer. Our mission is to source sustainable seafood and serve it in the form of a tasting menu.

Campaign Story

Since 2018 our guests have learned to put their trust in our hands. We don’t give out any menu’s or have any options when guests arrive. They just trust that we are going to give them a great experience. Now once again we want them to put their trust in us, and fund our dream of expanding Belly of the beast into the seafood feast next door

We met in 2010 as colleagues at Terroir Restaurant in Stellenbosch. We soon discovered that we are very similar and very different at the same time – which makes us a great team. Together we opened a neighbourhood restaurant in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town. And while managing a normal, average-sized restaurant for six years, we started to see what we didn’t like about the process. We started dreaming and having conversations about a completely different restaurant – a restaurant that would only serve a handful of people at a time with the dishes that we love. We wanted to be able to devote our fullest attention to every meal and every plate, creating an experience that our customers remember and come back for. Thanks to Crowdfunding, our supporters and loads of hard work, our dream restaurant has been up and running since August 2018. – Chefs Anouchka Horn and Neil Swart

We’ve been very successful at Belly but we feel that we have more to offer. We are passionate about good seafood and the cape is the perfect place to showcase what we have to offer. We dream of having a space next door to focus on seafood.
